10 Twitter Job Search Tips & Tools

Twitter’s popularity continues to soar, and in between the fluff that people post like, “mmm In and Out Burger..nom nom nom,”  you can find some useful information – especially if you’re in the job market. Recruiters and candidates can quickly connect and pass valuable data to one another. You just have to know where, and how to look. This brief article covers a how to effectively manage your job search and maximize your time. Use a combination of services and applications to save time and maximize your effectiveness when using Twitter.

Twitter job search sites:

Advanced Twitter Search – Search Twitter for a much wider spectrum than the basic search. You can target keywords, individuals, phrases, locations and much more. Use this to find current discussions and connect with others.

Twitterfall – I like Twitterfall because it’s simple to use, and you can just let it run in the background and periodically checkup on discussions. It filters Twitter posts by keywords you enter; you can enter multiple phrases and watch as the posts filter in and cascade down.

Monitter - Similar to Twitterfall, this site displays recent postings in real time by parsing your keywords and phrases and displaying the results.

Twitter Job Search – A simple but effective search engine that displays recent job postings.

HashJobs – Another good job search site that aggregates various twitter postings related to job openings. Still in its infancy but looks promising.

Twitter management applications:

These tools allow you to easily manage your twitter accounts from one central location. They are very similar and work very well, allowing you to manage multiple profiles, search, post, and reply from one location.

Tweetdeck - This Adobe Air application syncs with multiple social networking accounts, including twitter. You can do a lot with this great little app. It allows you to actively monitor all accounts at once, including Facebook, from one location. It’s sleek looking, and lightweight. Highly recommended for management and streamlining your Twitter usage.

Seesmic - The alternative to Tweetdeck. You can do most of the same things, and it’s quite functional.

FireFox Extensions

FireFox has some really useful extensions to help speed up your twittering.

TinyURL Extension – Another FireFox extension which comes in handy. Just run the extension and it automatically formats a url and places it on your clipboard.

Twitbin - This slick extension allows you to monitor twitter conversations in real time, and post to your account from a fly-out sidebar.

FireFox Twitter Search – This nifty little add-on allows you to easily search Twitter without having to go to the website.
